A man suffered a serious facial injury after an assault in Kilwinning.

A 26-year-old man was attacked by another man around 5pm in the Lainshaw area before he was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

The incident on Friday, February 19 was reported to police on Wednesday, February 24, and enquiries are ongoing to trace the person responsible.

The suspect is described as white, early twenties, approximately 6ft, of skinny build, with dark blonde hair. He was wearing a blue or purple jacket and is believed to have made off in the direction of Muirside, towards Pennyburn Road.

Detective Constable Will Thomson from Saltcoats CID said: "This incident happened during daylight hours in a residential area and the victim has sustained a significant injury, which will leave permanent scarring.

“I am appealing for witnesses who may have seen what happened, or noticed a man matching the above description in the area around the time of the attack. I am also appealing for drivers with dashcams to review their footage for around that time.
