A budgie who has appeared to escape from its owners in the Three Towns has been rescued by the Scottish SPCA.

The pet was spotted by worried walkers near Ardrossan South Beach yesterday afternoon who tried to rescue it over fears a bird could kill it.

One lady managed to catch the budgie and took it to a vet but was turned away.

However, the lady then contacted the Scottish SPCA who arrived hours later to collect the pet and took the budgie to their centre in Ayr.

The owner of the budgie is advised to contact the Scottish SPCA within seven days before the charity begins the process of rehoming it.
