KILWINNING’S McGavin Park has a brand new addition – fit for a queen.

The park in Dalry Road has a brand new picnic bench in the shape of a royal carriage.

And councillor Donald Reid, the man behind the new addition, is delighted to see it installed in the park.

It will join two other picnic benches disguised as a fire engine and a truck in the park in a bid to encourage people to meet up.

And on Monday, Councillor Reid was busy overseeing the installation of the park’s new additions.

“The sun is out and it is a good day for McGavin Park,” said Donald.

“We wanted to offer families more to enjoy at the park and the benches that look like the carriage, the truck and the fire engine are welcomed additions.

“We will also be putting in another bench in the park to make sure there are plenty of seats for people who may be out walking or who are meeting up outside for the first time in months.”

The busy councillor is at the park most days as he opens the toilets for visitors and he has been seen regularly tending to the flower beds.

It was three years ago that Kilwinning Community Events started working on improving McGavin Park, where they host events throughout the year including Picnic In The Park. which Donald is confident will go ahead this August.
