A NEW £20million state-of-the-art additional support needs (ASN) school will open its doors to pupils for the first time later this year.

Ahead of the official opening of Lockhart Campus in Stevenston, a logo and uniform has been unveiled with the help of pupils, parents/carers and others as part of the plans.

The new logo defines the aspirations and ambitions for the children and young people attending the new campus.

The new ASN school which is situated next to Auchenharvie Academy brings the pupils of Haysholm, Stanecastle, James Reid and James MacFarlane together.

The new logo was designed after lengthy consultation.

The background has the Lockhart tartan colours and the unlocked heart symbolises the school’s aspiration of working together to unlock and bring out the potential in its children and young people.

This logo will be used as the uniform badge and on all school communication.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Headteacher Wendy Fenton said: “We are all extremely excited with the opening which is now just a few months away and hope that all our pupils will soon be able to recognise and associate this logo with their new school.

“We have to thank all the parents and pupils for all their support and think the design we have come up with reflects our vision moving forward.

“The new school is going to be absolutely fantastic and will transform the way we do things. Obviously, during these difficult times, we’ve not been able to get out to visit the site as much as we would like but progress is going well and things are really taking shape.”

As well as 29 classrooms, there will be a swimming pool, hydro pool, sensory rooms, soft-play area, STEM, life skills, music, craft and outdoor rooms.

The school is set for a phased opening in May/June to allow the young people to acclimatise before they all come together after the summer holidays.

Councillor John Bell, cabinet member for education, said: “This is shaping up to be a fantastic facility that will enhance the experience of pupils and staff alike.

“The new logo and uniform encapsulate the aspirations and ambitions perfectly. We are sure the whole school community will take great pride in the facility itself.”
