North Ayrshire Trading Standards has issued a warning to residents after reports that individuals are pretending to work for the council in order to gain entry into private homes and businesses.
The council is reminding residents that council staff will always show their ID when attending a property or business.
In a statement published online North Ayrshire's Trading Standards team said: "We have received two different reports this week of people pretending to be council workers to gain entry into private homes and businesses.
"Please be aware that the council will always show your their ID and will be happy to make an appointment to return if you are unsure of their identity.
"Never let anyone unexpected into your home without ensuring they are who they say they are."
