A THREE Towns domestic offender was thrown in jail for six months after being told to learn how to behave towards women properly.

Terry Boyle, 34, was scolded by the sheriff for his behaviour as he was told he had now reached the point where prison was left her only option for him.

Boyle, of Keir Hardie Place, Saltcoats previously pled guilty to two domestic offences when he appeared for sentencing last week at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court [Monday, March 15].

He admitted assaulting his girlfriend by seizing her clothing, pulling her by it and then struggling with the woman at the address on February 19 this year.

He admitted to a second charge of causing fear and alarm through his threatening and abusive behaviour – repeatedly shouting and swearing at the woman during the incident while adopting an aggressive demeanour towards the complainer.

The complaint states the offences were committed while on bail – having been granted on October 26, 2020 at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court – with both charges aggravated by involving abuse of a partner.

Boyle’s defence solicitor told the court his client’s “chaotic lifestyle” had led to the offending but that he had made progress since the offences and is “making efforts in relation to the complainer”.

However Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane said: “It has got to the point where I have to start marking your behaviour with prison sentences.”

She sentenced him to six months in custody, adding he could continue with a current community payback order when he was released from prison and learn to “start behaving towards women properly”.

Boyle was led back down stairs to custody to serve his sentence, which was backdated from February 22 this year when remanded.
