A STEVENSTON woman has raised more than £2,000 for charity after walking 10,000 steps every day in March.

Candace Crainie, 34, was inspired to take on the Walk for Autism challenge after her son Ralph was diagnosed with autism two and a half years ago.

At time of writing, Candace had raised an incredible £2,406.

She told the Herald: “My son Ralph, five, was diagnosed with autism when he was three and I had never done any fundraising before but when this came up I thought it would be a really good idea.

“I believe there is still a lot of misconceptions around what autism actually is so I was hoping to not only raise funds for an amazing cause but to raise awareness for something close to our hearts.

“The challenge was to walk 10,000 steps every day for eight days but I decided to challenge myself during lockdown and did it every day for a month.

“It has been challenging at times to motivate myself to get out daily but with the support and donations coming in it has kept me going.

“My mum has come out with me at times and Ralph has came on his scooter, along with my other boys Sonny and Hugo.

“My initial goal was around £500 but I could never have expected to raise more than £2,000. I was a bit sceptical about fundraising during a pandemic and asking people to donate but the response has been amazing so I am absolutely delighted with it. My dad works offshore and he raised around £1,000 on his rig and local businesses have also supported me.”

Candace added: “I have to thank everyone that has donated. I have been blown away with all the support.”
