Nicola Sturgeon reacted to a picture of the crowd shared on social media and wrote: "The juxtaposition of this and the catastrophe unfolding in India is quite upsetting.

"Covid is not a hoax - as more than 10,000 grieving families in Scotland know, it is very real.

"Thankfully, things are getting better here & restrictions are easing - but we must still take care."

Another group of anti-lockdown protestors gathered in Queen's Park before marching to the city centre to join those gathered there.

They were seen making their way through Govanhill accompanied by a large number of officers.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We are aware of a planned demonstration in the Queens Park area of Glasgow on Saturday, 24 April, 2021.

"Officers were in attendance as part of routine patrols, and have engaged with a number of people and given appropriate advice."
