Motorists are set to face more delays this week as essential maintenance is carried out on the A738 Stevenston Road to Pennyburn overnight.
The road was closed completely at the weekend as work was carried out with overnight closures starting tonight (April 26) from 8pm-6am, continuing until Wednesday.
The £175,000 scheme will benefit road users by continuing to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the trunk road at this location and reducing the need for future maintenance.
A signed diversion route will be in operation.
Westbound traffic will be directed east along the A738 (Stevenston Road, Townhead and Byres Road) to the A737 south (Howgate, Lauchlan Way, Bridgend and Irvine Road) to Eglinton Interchange and the A78 westbound to Pennyburn Roundabout where this diversion will end.
Eastbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction.
A local diversion route via Pennyburn Road will be used to provide access from the north to and from Whitehirst Park, access to West Doura Way will also be gained from the north via Byres Road.
The retail/restaurant area off Pennyburn Roundabout will be maintained however no through access will be permitted beyond the fire station during the closure times.
This scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Kilwinning Community Fire Station, Kilwinning Ambulance Station, Strathclyde Passenger Transport and North Ayrshire Council.
