A driver was arrested and taken to hospital on Saturday night following a road crash on the High Road, Saltcoats.

The incident happened just before 8.30pm (April 24) with police and an ambulance in attendance after they were called out to a single vehicle road traffic accident.

The driver and one other occupant of the vehicle were taken to hospital as a precaution, but staff deemed them fit for police custody.

The 43-year-old male driver was arrested for alleged careless driving while a 30-year-old woman was charged for allegedly permitting the male to drive without insurance.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At about 8.28pm on Saturday, April 24, 2021, police were actioned to a road traffic Collision on High Road, Saltcoats.

“A 43-year-old man was arrested and held in custody for court for alleged careless driving, disqualified driver, no insurance and being impaired whilst driving.

“A 30-year-old woman was also charged for allegedly permitting the male to drive without insurance."
