A YOUNG man from Kilbirnie has received national acclaim for his work in supporting minority groups in North Ayrshire.
Yehya Al Deri, 21, was announced as the winner of the Enhancing Education category at the Young Scot Awards 2021 on Sunday.
He has been volunteering as a Community Interpreter with North Ayrshire Council’s Connected Communities team since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Originally from Syria, Yehya arrived in Scotland with his family through the resettlement program in 2018.
Speaking about his award success, Yehya said: “I was surprised but also very happy to win the award – my family is proud of me both for winning the award and for the work that I do to support others.”
