Police have issued an appeal after two men gained entry into a 90-year-old’s Saltcoats home under the guise of investigating a burst water pipe.

The Herald reported the incident earlier this week which happened at a property on the Braes at around 4pm on Tuesday (April 27).

Officers in the area are now appealing to residents who may have seen the suspects or motorists who have dashcam footage in the area to come forward.

Police have also issued a description of both men.  

One of the men was described as aged 20-25, of thin build with dark brown hair and of tanned complexion.

The second man was of heavy built, had receding hair, a red complexion and was wearing a dark jacket with a high visibility top underneath.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police are continuing their enquiries after a 90-year-old woman was subject to a doorstep crime incident in her home address on Braes Road, Saltcoats on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.

“About 4pm, two men attended her door requesting entry under the guise of needing to check her water supply. Although nothing has been taken, the victim has been affected by the ordeal.

“One of the men was described as aged 20-25, of thin build with dark brown hair and of tanned complexion. The second man was of heavy built, had receding hair, a red complexion and was wearing a dark jacket with a high visibility top underneath.

“Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Braes Road at the time of the incident and may have seen the suspects or has dashcam footage that may have captured the men and any vehicle they may have been using.
