Contact tracing is currently being carried out at Ardrossan Academy.

An NHS Public Health Consultant confirmed that contact tracing is underway within the school community and that close contacts are being contacted by the Test and Protect team and being asked to self-isolate at home.

Assurance has been given that all measures are being taken to protect staff and students.

Joy Tomlinson, Consultant in Public Health, said: "NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Test & Protect team is conducting contact tracing within Ardrossan Academy in the North Ayrshire Council area.

"Close contacts will be contacted by the Test and Protect team and advised to self-isolate at home.

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time.

"We would like to remind people of the symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19): new persistent cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell. Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately."

Everyone in Ayrshire and Arran is reminded to remember the FACTS guidance:

· F – Face coverings. These should be used in shops and on public transport (buses, trains and taxis)

· A – Avoid crowded places.

· C – Clean your hands frequently, using water & soap whenever possible.

· T – Two metres – observe physical distancing.

· S – Self-isolate and book a test if you are suffering from COVID-19 symptoms.
