Coronavirus cases in North Ayrshire have come down again after three weeks of increasing according to the latest data from Public Health Scotland.

Between April 25-May 1 there were 20 positive tests in the area.

That’s 12 less than the week before and gives us a seven day rate per 100,000 population of 14.8, which would see us qualify for level one of the Scottish Government’s level system.

It remains to be seen whether we’ll return to a localised level system. The current plan is for Scotland to move as a whole to level two on May 17, but the government have not ruled out a return to local levels, saying: “All restrictions are kept under review and we are continually monitoring the data to get Scotland back to as much normality as possible as quickly as it is safe to do so.

“The First Minister has outlined the preferred path being all of Scotland moving together to Level 2 on Monday May 17, though at all stages easing of restrictions will be dependent on the data and conditions at the time.”

All but one (Irvine Perceton and Lawthorn) of the 38 neighbourhoods in North Ayrshire are currently classified as having suppressed the virus.

First dose vaccines have been given to 67.9 per cent of the adult population in North Ayrshire and 31.8 per cent have had a second dose too. Nationwide the figures are at 62.4 and 29.7.

The latest National Records of Scotland data shows there was one person in North Ayrshire who died where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate between April 19-25.
