ARDROSSAN Community Trust has been given lottery funding to the tune of £249,584 to start work on its makeover of the town’s South Beach promenade.

A new playpark; 100 deckchairs for visitors and a coffee shop are among the ambitious plans.

And the first phase of the plan will see additional fully inclusive playpark elements installed at South Beach Promenade with the money from the National Lottery’s Community Fund.

Enhancing visitor’s experience of South Beach Promenade will see 100 deckchairs available free on loan and can also be used by community groups for meetings in the area, the Trust will also deliver Wheelers to the Prom allowing wheelchair users direct access to the beach.

And the toilet block could be transformed into a coffee shop with outside seating on the Promenade.

Ardrossan Community Trust Chairperson, Scott Mould, said: “We have been working closely with North Ayrshire Council and we are grateful for their support, we also have a strong relationship with Cunninghame Housing Association who have lived up to their motto of ‘More than just a landlord – making communities better places’ and supported the Trust from its infancy by giving us office space within the Frank Sweeney Centre for Enterprise allocating time from experience staff to help with funding bids, legal advice and governance.

“They have also provided financial support of £5,000 to assist with the day-to-day operational costs of the Trust. To be given the funding from the National Lottery’s Community Fund is fantastic and we will be working hard to make sure that our plans to enhance our stunning South Beach move forward.
