SALTCOATS Tennis Courts are set to have a new lease of life after Councillor Jim Montgomerie secured money to help give them a facelift.
And despite being given £9,000 from North Ayrshire Council to help paint new lines and improve the nets, it won’t be enough to transform the busy courts based at The Glebe.
“I was asked if I could get the courts lines but when I looked at the courts it was clear that they need totally painted,” said Jim.
“I asked the council to do this and after a bit of toing and froing it was agreed they would do the work which is fantastic as the courts are busy, especially during the lighter nights.”
When the Herald went along to meet Cllr Montgomerie, two keen players were on one of the courts.
Baden Thomson from Irvine and pal Kyle Smith had rediscovered a love for the game during lockdown and play five days a week in Saltcoats.
“We would love to see improvements and even floodlights or a wee club formed here, ” said Baden.
“These courts are well used.”
