Ardrossan Academy is dealing with fresh cases of COVID-19 infections whilst NHS continues to assess the extent of infections in the school.

The health board is currently undertaking a risk assessment to identify children and staff who may have been in contact with confirmed cases.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran are currently undertaking a track and trace operation at the school, with parents and pupils informed of infections.

Health bosses have reassured people that everything is being done to ensure the protection of all children and staff.

Lynne McNiven, director of public health for NHS Ayrshire and Arran said: “NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Test & Protect team, along with North Ayrshire Council, can confirm that contact tracing is being carried out within Ardrossan Academy, following confirmed cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

“We have undertaken a careful risk assessment to identify any children and staff who may have had contact with the confirmed cases. The individuals and their households are being contacted and told to self-isolate and book a test.

“We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect children and staff.

“The school continues to be supported through regular conversations between Education leads within North Ayrshire Council and the NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Health Protection team.

“To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time.”.
