People aged 18-29 in Ayrshire will soon be invited to receive their COVID-19 vaccination at a local centre as the next phase of the vaccination programme gets underway.

Clinics for 18 to 29 year olds to receive their first dose are scheduled around Ayrshire between June 21 and July 7. Many in this age group will have used the national registration service and so will have received their appointment by text message.

If you are aged 18-29 but missed the deadline to pre-register for your vaccine, blue appointment letters are on their way but you can also use the online appointment checker to:

  • View your appointment (it could be any date between June 21 and July 7)
  • Reschedule your slot if it is not suitable

You can check the details of your appointment here.

In line with guidance from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) this age group will be offered an alternative to the Oxford/Astrazeneca vaccine.

So far, 82.5% of the adult population in Ayrshire & Arran have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran Director of Public Health Lynne McNiven said: “We know there is a huge appetite for the COVID-19 vaccine among our young people and because we have been following the prioritisation set out by the JCVI, many in the 18 to 29 year old age group have had to be very patient for their opportunity to come forward.

"Recent drop-in opportunities at various locations in Ayrshire have seen an amazing response from young people keen to be vaccinated and it has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm in our communities.

“We want as many people as possible to get the protection that vaccination offers against the virus – I’d encourage everyone to take the opportunity when they are invited. Coronavirus can cause serious illness at any age and the vaccine offers the best protection against this.”

Those who have been vaccinated should continue to follow FACTS as it will take time to establish the impact of the vaccines on transmission of the virus.
