HUSBAND and wife duo, Alistair and Jennie Ferdinand have retired after 18 years with Specsavers in Saltcoats and handed the reins to another married couple, optometrists Victoria Logan and Cameron Dunlop.

Jennie qualified as an optician in 1983 and worked at various independent opticians before taking the leap with her own practice and opening Specsavers on Dockhead Street in 2003 where she has grown a successful business.

As the business grew Jennie employed more staff it was clear that a Retail Director was necessary, this is when she talked to her husband Alistair and he took the decision to leave his career as a bank manager and join his wife at Specsavers.

Alistair said: ‘The decision to work together was easy and as we often approach challenges from different angles, the team and the business got the best from both of us.

“The highlight really is how well we’ve supported, trusted and encouraged each other throughout the years.

“We both love helping people develop and have put a huge amount of time and investment into this.

“We must say a huge thank you to staff past and present, the local traders and our customers who have loyally supported us over the last 18 years. It has been a pleasure and an honour to get to know them all.”

New director Victoria added: ‘They are big shoes to fill as Alistair and Jennie have left a legacy behind with Specsavers following a combined 30 years’ service.

“We wish you a very happy retirement and hope you have wonderful adventures on your travels and the golf course.

“We are delighted to lead the team in a new chapter as we continue to engage with the local community and provide a vital service in Saltcoats.”

The Herald wishes Jennie and Alistair a happy retirement.
