Stevenston care workers Diane Mcdowall and Kathleen Whyte are already getting buzzed for when they Brave the Shave for Macmillan tomorrow (Thursday).

The work pals are going to swap their blonde locks for a buzz cut to raise funds for cancer support and will be getting one of their service users, Margaret Brown, who recently had the all-clear after treatment for cancer, to do the buzzing.

Diane told the Herald ahead of the shave: “I couldn’t sleep last night, I’m worried, scared, excited. I’ve never had a shaved head before but I figured it will be good with the warmer weather and when I am working in people’s houses.

“I recently had a cancer scare and it stays with you.

“I am going to Belfast at weekend to see my granddaughters Isla, who is four, and Iona who is 18 months. I had let Isla know why I am doing it and how it will help sick men and women, wee boys and girls feel better so she can understand the change.

“I managed to rope my colleague Kathleen in as well, she didn’t have much time to think about it.

“We will hopefully be doing the shave outside of work, so people can come along and watch if the weather is nice. And of course, put their hand in their pocket and donate.”
