Police are warning Ayrshire daytrippers not to drink alcohol on trains bound for the west coast.

With soaring temperatures and sunny skies yesterday, Ayrshire is expected to have some of the finest weather for the rest of the week.

Ayrshire police have said that they'll be a greater presence at beaches across Ayrshire and main transport hubs to help visitors to Ayrshire get home safely.

However, British Transport Police (BTP) have issued a warning that there would be no guarantee passengers would be able to board services running back to Glasgow.

A queuing system is currently in place at Glasgow Central Station to cope with large numbers expected to be returning on the Ayr line.

Meanwhile, the Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team deployed a proactive incident prevention patrol on Tuesday working alongside colleagues from Ayrshire Police Division, British Transport Police, and other partner agencies.

A spokesperson said: "The beaches across Ayrshire are exceptionally busy with people enjoying the good weather and we are urging everyone to stay safe when visiting the coast.

"Help us to help you and remember these key points:

· Leave inflatables at home – they’re designed for swimming pools and not the sea;

· Alcohol and water make a lethal combination – don’t enter the water for a swim after consuming alcohol;

· If you unexpectedly find yourself in cold water fight your instincts and remember these three words – FLOAT TO LIVE.

It’s also essential people #KnowWhoToCall in a coastal emergency as any delay in the right resources being tasked to an incident can have a significant impact on the outcome."

If you see someone at risk along the coast or at sea always dial 999 and ask for Coastguard.
