From potholes to missing drain covers, it is fair to say residents across all council areas often have a problem or two to contend with.

When issues arise, it is best to report them to the council or whoever is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of roads, pavements and pathways in your local area.

Many do so but others sometimes take to websites such as FixMyStreet which sends the reported problem on to the relevant council on residents' behalf in the hope of having it seen to.

Honing in on North Ayrshire, here are eight problems that appear to be oustanding as reported by residents in the last few months.

Sunken manhole near Dalry

Just this Monday past [July 5] a sunken manhole was reported on the road going towards Dalry which appears to be situated on the B714, just before the turn off leading to Bankhead Farm. A resident reported that the manhole 'has dropped and is right on the track of a car's nearside wheel' adding that, 'it causes a huge bang to the car's suspension and is very violent if driven directly over.' The individual noted that it was worse at night when it can't be noticed.

Missing drain cover in Dalry

Last week [June 28] a water isolating drain cover was reported missing outside 4 St Andrew's Gardens, Dalry. The hole was said to be in the centre of the path, posing a risk to dogs and the general public using the path.

Parking issues in Ardrossan

On Sunday, May 2, a local wrote in that the parking in her street was getting worse, with the individual claiming to have had to reschedule deliveries to her house as the delivery vehicle hasn't been able to get up the street. A specific location was not given but from the accompanying map, the problem seems to be occurring at Bridgepark, just off Hunter Avenue. Have you experienced similar issues around this area?

Several potholes causing annoyance in Ardrossan

On Thursday, April 22, a resident reported that the council had repaired a pothole in the middle of their street but 'did nothing' about other potholes in the same location. A specific site was not listed but from the accompanying map online, the address seems to lie between Montfode Drive and Boydston Road.

Pathway flooding in Ardrossan

On the same day as above, a resident stated that the pathway at the railway bridge 'floods when raining resulting in pathway becoming inaccessible.' They also reported that the drainage system appeared to be blocked after recent pathway resurfacing. This issue seems to originate from near Witches Linn in the town.

Lack of lighting in Ardrossan

There must have been something in the water on April 22 as another report came in from around Witches Linn stating that there was 'a severe lack of lighting along the footpath and under the railway bridge.' The resident added that 'this is a safety concern for all pedestrians at night.'

Tripping hazzard in Ardrossan

Slabbed footpaths were causing a bit of tension among residents on April 12 as one reported that slabbed footpaths, again along Witchess Linn, were proving to be a tripping hazard for those in the area. The individual said that the slabbed pavement is 'mainly broken and uneven causing multiple trip hazards for all pedestrians'. Do you have any qualms with this spot?

Dug up pavement in Saltcoats

On April 8, a Saltcoats person stated that a lighting contractor had reportedly dug up the pavement on Victoria Road. There was evidently some concern there, as the resident pointed to a potential injury that could be caused by the 'hazard'.

In the report, they added 'I have many residents, particularly elderly who use this daily. I have tried to contact the North Ayrshire Council to resolve this problem but was very unsuccessful.

'This has now been left for four weeks. The company have dug up the pavement beside my property and it is preventing me access to the side of my property.'
