THE search is on to find young people in North Ayrshire to sign up to become part of a new Scottish Youth Climate Programme.

Run by Young Scot, Keep Scotland Beautiful and YouthLink Scotland, North Ayrshire Council is looking for young people to sign up and get involved in the scheme that will look at ways to improve the local area where they live.

The young people will form the new Young Scot Climate Co-design Group, set to make up part of the Scottish Government’s COP26 Scottish Youth Climate Programme of events in the run up to the UN climate conference in November.

They will become Local Champions and help devise projects in their own towns to help clean them up.

The group will also look at tackling poverty issues facing young people and encourage ways of saving money through projects like the school uniform swap for primary and secondary aged pupils.

Donna Anderson, Youth Participation Officer for North Ayrshire Council said: “It would be great to see young people in North Ayrshire get involved in the Scottish Youth Climate Programme.

“It covers a wide range of issues and I know that a lot of young people in North Ayrshire will have great ideas on how to tackle climate issues and make a difference in this area.”
