Ardrossan Winton Rovers manager Stevie Wilson praised his side’s commanding performance as they beat Ashfield 2-0 in their final pre season friendly.

Kyle Lochhead opened the scoring in the first half via a free kick and Jamie McKenna headed in Andy Hunter’s cross just after the break to give the hosts the win.

Speaking to the Herald, Wilson said: “The game was really good, we scored early in the first and second half, which knocked the stuffing out of Ashfield.

“I felt we dominated the majority of the second half and probably should have scored more goals to be honest. “

Next up for rovers is their competitive debut in the senior set up, in their West of Scotland Football League Conference C opener against Vale of Leven at Winton Park,

Wilson says he is keen for Rovers to make home advantage count and pick up points early in their campaign.

“It is going to be another tough game, very similar to the Ashfield game, they will be very dogged and we will need to break them down.

“For our home games we need to look at picking up maximum points and the players know the importance of getting results early in the season.”
