The A737 is now back open after a gas leak caused closure for most of yesterday.

Those travelling from North Ayrshire to Glasgow via the A737 were warned yesterday that the road would be closed in both directions at Lochwinnoch due to a gas leak.

It happened just after 9am yesterday morning and the road did not open back up until around 10pm later that night.

The closure affected both ways between the A737 junctions with the A760 and the B787.

SGN engineers rushed to the site to fix the problem.

An SGN spokesperson, commenting on the repairs yesterday said: "We're carrying out emergency repairs to our gas main in the A737 between Howwood and Lochwinnoch.

"For everyone's safety, the A737 is temporarily closed both ways between its junctions with the A760 and the B787. The emergency services are helping to redirect motorists.

"We know this is a busy route, so our teams are working as quickly and safely as possible to complete our repairs. It's too early to say at this stage how long this will take but we’ll post any updates on the roadworks section of our website."
