A man has been left hospitalised following a serious assault in Stevenston yesterday (July 19).

The incident took place around 8.45pm when police were called to a report of a disturbance involving two men and a woman on McGregor Avenue.

Emergency services attended and a 25-year-old man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital with serious injuries. Medical staff describe his condition as serious but stable.

A 29-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and are due to appear before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court today (July 20).

Detective Sergeant Will Thomson from Saltcoats CID said: “A man has been left seriously injured as a result of this incident and extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“It was still daylight at the time, the surrounding area would have been relatively busy, and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened or saw anything suspicious to please get in touch.

“I would also urge any motorists with dash-cams who were travelling through at the time to check their footage in case they have captured anything which could be of significance to our investigation.
