THE keen walkers of the Three Towns 10k Steppers group donned giant fancy dress costumes to spread the word about dropping litter at the beach.

Among the outfits worn by the 10k Step Gang were a giant coffee cup, a cigarette and a bin as they talked to sun worshippers about making sure they put their litter in the bin or take it home.

The previous weekend the 10k Steppers had collected over 200 bags of litter around the Three Towns during just one day’s tidy up.

And at the weekend they were joined by the members the Three Towns Clean Up Crew and the youngsters of the Mini Pickers who asked to get involved.

So they decided to help the Keep Scotland Beautiful campaign by heading to South Beach to talk to families and

pose for selfies too. And while it was a fun day for everyone, there was a serious message being conveyed with the motto, Thumbs Up If You Take Your Litter Home with you.

On the day they spoke to people about making sure they don’t leave their litter on the beach, encouraging them to put it in the bins along Saltcoats and Ardrossan beaches or pack it up and take it home with them.

Spokeswoman for the 10k Step Gang Donna said: “We wanted to get out and talk to people about taking their litter home.

“Albert and Kathleen at the funfair next to Oscars kindly gave the Mini Pickers slushes on the day to cool them down and we were happy to pose for selfies along the beach.”

The 10k Step Gang was set up when a few friends decided to support each other during

lockdown to get out walking each day.

Now, the gang is taking on the Olympic Challenge and trying to reach 25,000 steps a day throughout the duration of the Games in Tokyo. as well as heading out on another litter picking session with the Three Towns Clean Up Crew.
