A CHARITY football match in memory of little Alfie Curran has raised over £2,500 to help buy wee Calum McBlane a state of the art wheelchair.
Alfie sadly passed away in July 2019 after living with cerebral palsy. The 11-year-old wee warrior was well known and loved in the Three Towns and the huge outpouring of grief across the community following his passing showed how many lives he touched.
A football match in tribute to Alfie took place on Sunday, August 22 at Campbell Park and raised an impressive £2,537.
Teams from Bobby’s Bar and the Crown Inn battled it out on the pitch, with the The Crown claiming a 4-3 victory.
Stuart Roy, who helped organise the event told the Herald: “It went amazing, absolutely amazing. The turn out was fantastic.
“We raised money so wee Calum McBlane could get a new wheelchair.
“That cost £2,360, and we managed to raise £2,537 which is really good.”
Local dance groups Dance Mafia and CSDA performed at half time and we also had a DJ down, made a day of it.
“A massive thank you for everybody who turned up, big thank you to Saltcoats Vics for letting us use the stadium. For Sean McMillian for arranging the Crown team, and David Brown for arranging the Bobby’s Bar team, and CSDA, Dance Mafia and DJ Sinki for the entertainment.”
