A man is fighting for his life after a crash on A78 early this morning.

Around 1.35am on Friday, September 3, police received a report of a one vehicle road traffic collision involving a BMW X5 on the A78 near to the Eglinton roundabout.

Emergency services attended and a male driver was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with what are described as life threatening injuries.

A female passenger was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment to what are described as minor injuries.

An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the crash and the road is currently closed southbound at the Eglinton Interchange.

The A78 had been closed due to the incident earlier this morning.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident or who may have seen the BMW on the road prior to the collision to contact them.

Sergeant Craig Beaver said: “Enquiries are ongoing in to the cause of the crash and we are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch. I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time to review dashcam footage and get in touch.

“We anticipate the road will be closed for some time and we would ask motorists to avoid the area if possible.”
