A SALTCOATS salon has - yet again - come out on top after a double scoop of accolades at the 2021 British Hair and Beauty Awards.

Abundance Hair and Beauty, owned by Vicky Bryce, was awarded the British Silver for Employer of the Year.

And 18-year-old Amy McWhinnie achieved British Bronze for the Rising Star of the year.

Proud Vicky told the Herald just how she nurtured young Amy, demonstrating just how deserving she is of Employer of the Year.

She said: “Amy started at 14 as a Saturday girl, and has learned so quickly.

“She is now a supervisor, and on her way to becoming one of the top of her course. I sent her to a private hairdressing college in Glasgow, and she’ll be one of the quickest to complete her qualifications this year.”

Unfortunately, there was no glitzy ceremony this year due to Covid, but Vicky’s team all got dressed up at the Salon for dinner, drinks and to watch the ceremony.

Vicky continued: “We are so super proud to be able to win such prestigious awards.

“I have been trading in this area for 10 years when me and my husband decided to buy here, and five years in the current salon. When we opened the Hamilton Street premises in 2017, I kept a wall clear as my goal was to focus on filling the wall with awards.

“With these two new additions, we have completely filled the space. That’s eight awards in just five years.”

The British Hair and Beauty Awards are not by nomination, but instead evidence based. Vicky and Amy were grilled by submitting a portfolio of evidence to the judges.

Vicky’s focus now is to work towards becoming one of the first ‘mindful’ salons in Scotland.

She explained: “When I came back after lockdown, we knew we had to do things differently. We are investing to training our staff to understand mindfulness and undertaking a ‘Salon Jedi’ course that we will be tested on soon.”
