A fundraising plea has been launched to bring specialist search and rescue dogs back to Scotland to help in the search for missing Saltcoats teen Jamie Cannon.

The Herald exclusively reported this week about the heroic efforts of the Northern Irish search team who have volunteered to support the detailed search of the ex-ICI plant in Stevenston, near where Jamie was last seen back in May.

They are now looking to raise £1000 - the cost to bring the dogs and handlers over for six days - so they can return to search the site.

Familiar with aiding the Coastguard in rescuing vulnerable and missing persons, the highly-trained 'victim recovery' dogs, were used to search the ICI plant in Stevenston on Sunday and Monday for clues of the missing Saltcoats teenager last weekend.

They have been cooperating with Police Scotland over further potential locations and require donations in order to undertake a more extensive search.

Ryan Gray, organiser for K9 Search and Rescue Northern Ireland said: "It is 119 days since 19-year-old Jamie Cannon was in contact with his family and he has not been seen since.

"We recently spent two days looking for Jamie in his local area but sadly didn’t find him. We understand how important it is for Jamie’s family to find him and we would like to return to Saltcoats and continue looking for Jamie.

"Would you be able to help us fund this trip? We need to raise roughly £1000, which will allow us to come for six days.

"Being a totally voluntary organisation, we are asking for donations towards our costs so that we can keep looking for Jamie.

"Any donation, no matter how small will help us get the specialist dogs and handlers there and help us support Jamie’s family in bringing him home. This is what we train for, this is what we are passionate about, solving missing person cases and reuniting families.

"We will be there for you if you ever need us, so please help us to be there for others now in their time of need."
