Clinics in Ayrshire are continuing to offer people the chance to be vaccinated against Covid-19 on a drop-in basis, and 12-15 year olds will soon be able to get their first dose, too.

Between September 20 and 26, there will be a number of venues where those aged 16 years and over can drop-in to get either a first or second dose of vaccine.

In the coming weeks and months, some groups eligible for a third booster vaccine will be invited to local appointments, too, with more details on the local booster programme to be given by the health board in due course.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran Director of Public Health Lynne McNiven said: “All the clinics next week are for those over 16 years to attend for either first or second dose of vaccine. If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, I strongly recommend that you come forward to a clinic convenient to you to get that vaccine – it offers the best protection we have against the negative impacts of coronavirus, which can be severe at any age.

"Our vaccination teams will be on campus offering students and staff at UWS and SRUC the chance to be immunised – so please take that opportunity if you are on campus and are not yet vaccinated or are due a second dose.

“We are working on preparing for the next stage of the vaccine programme, where 12 to 15 year olds will be offered one dose, and some of those who have already been vaccinated at the beginning of the programme last winter, will be offered a third booster dose of vaccine.

"We look forward to welcoming young people aged 12 to 15 to initial drop-in clinics from Thursday 23 September, with appointment letters for clinics starting from Thursday 30 September also being issued next week. Preparations for the booster programme are well underway and the details will be shared with the public as to how this will be rolled out locally soon.”
