September is Happy Cat Month - four whole weeks dedicated to celebrating our feline friends here in Ayrshire.

To mark the occasion, and with cats notorious for cutting some rather questionable shapes, we thought we'd check in with our readers to see what their pets have been up to - and if they've been striking any unusual poses recently.

Hundreds of people from across our four titles responded and so we have put together 20 of the best, and most peculiar, cat poses, as submitted by you. So buckle up all you crazy cats and kittens, 'cause here goes...

20. Jay Coleman's cat, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Do you ever get the feeling that someone is watching you...? Jay submitted this photo of his cat to Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald.

19. Freddie having a snooze, South Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Louise Lauchlan sent in this photo of two-year-old Freddie having a snooze in a very interesting position. She said: "I think my cat may be broken"!

18. Helen's cat is on the lookout in North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Helen Roy Climie sent this photo to the Irvine Times of her wide-eyed cat looking slightly unnerved while jammed in a hole in a fence. We hope she got them out alright...

17. Levi sits just hanging out on a door frame, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Thanks to Shaun Berry who sent this cat snap into the Irvine Times. His cat, Levi, has got the balancing act down to  T...

16. 'Charlie boy' chills out in style, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

We're not sure if this is a toy bath or something else, but Jocelyn McBlain's furry friend, who she fondly referred to as 'my Charlie boy', is definitely living the life of luxury...

15. A reader's cat having a moment in their armchair, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Allison Taylor Davis caught her cat, without a care in the world, spread out on her arm chair.

14. Lucky leaving nothing to the imagination, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Speaking of not giving a hoot, Claire Morr's pet, Lucky, was snapped while having a relax on the sofa. Paws in the air like you just don't care!

13. Laura Anderson's cat having a Bonnie old time to themself, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Laura sent this photo to the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald. It features her cat, Bonnie Marshmallow Matilda, just contemplating life.

12. Mr Jinks looking very cosy, East Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Cumnock Chronicle received this submission from Sallyann McKnight. Her cute little cat, Mr Jinks, looks both smug and unimpressed in equal measure.

11. Teddy's owner catches him kicking back, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Jacqueline Lowrey got in touch with the Irvine Times to show off this comical snap. Her cat, Teddy, seems to be hogging the couch!

10. Claire McMillan's cat gets patriotic, East Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Eddie where's your troosers? Claire's pet, Eddie, poses while wearing a pink and purple kilt, presumably made for him by one of the family.

9. Mo looks like he's a bit stuck, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Mo has got himself into a bit of difficulty here while lounging on what looks like a hall cabinet. We hope owner, Chevyonne Cassidy, helped him get back into a normal position!

8. Mittens misses the litter tray, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Mittens' owner, Helen McGregor, sent this image of her animal rather startled on the loo.

7. Onyx gets caught in a similar pose, South Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Aurelia Peddie sent this photo in to the Ayr Advertiser of black cat, Onyx, in a very compromising position...

6. Ollie having a cat nap, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

We're sensing a theme here... Helen Roy Climie's pet, Ollie, captured having a cat nap - on a door!

5. Aneta's cat living it up, East Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

This one made us laugh. Thanks to Aneta Lewandowska for sending this on to the Cumnock Chronicle.

4. Shaun Berry's cat having a nosey, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

It seems there's a new member of Neighborhood Watch - Shaun Berry's cat Levi again. Perched upright at the window, it looks like nothing is getting past this puss...

3. Robbie's cat looking a tad contorted, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Robbie Lambie sent this picture to the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald and we were very impressed at the shape this cat!

2. Poppy looking quite peculiar, North Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

We can't make head nor tail - quite literally - of this pose. Reader Kirsty Shennan Weir might have to explain how her cat, Poppy, got herself into this one!

1. Mark Taylor's cat looking very cool in the sunshine, South Ayrshire

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Paws up, legs outstretched, eyes closed, head resting on the window sill... Mark's cat looks almost human-like as they bask in the September sunshine. An unusual pose, and one very happy cat!
