The Saltcoats Protestant Boys Flute Band took to their bikes on one of the wettest days of the summer to raise funds for the Ayrshire Hospice in memory of a much missed bandmate.

The team, including 11-year-old Callum, set out on Saturday, August 21 to cycle from Ardrossan Cemetery to Nethermains and then headed over to the Waterside Hotel before heading home. The horrible weather didn’t put the group off as they battled the wind and rain, raising an amazing £3,750. £3,000 of that went to Ayrshire Hospice with £150 each going to MND Scotland, Alzheimer’s Scotland, MacMillan Cancer Care Scotland, Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland and Diabetes Research Scotland.

This is the second year the band decided to take on the cycling challenge in memory of their member Gary Woods, who passed away on March, 24, 2020.

The group raised £8,082 last year.
