A FORMER church in the middle of Saltcoats is to be transformed into an indoor market.
The Landsborough and Trinity Church in Dockhead Street is in the middle of a renovation to offer space for up to 10 retailers inside.
And developers Rishi Magon and Michael Buttle are hoping that small businesses come forward to take on a unit.
Rishi, whose family has owned several shops in the town, including the former indoor market, wants to give small business a chance to set up shop.
“Throughout lockdown a lot of people have been working from home and some have been busy setting up their small businesses too,” said Rishi.
“We want to offer them somewhere to open up and have a fixed rent that means they don’t have to worry about other overheads that come with running a business.
“At first we thought about containers outside the church but once lockdown was eased, it made sense to focus on inside the church as it is such a unique venue.”
The plan is to also offer a fruit and veg market outside the front of the church in the coming weeks, Michael, who owns B&B’s takeaways in the town, went on: “We are missing a fresh fruit and veg shop so it would be good to offer one to the people.
“We have even organised a grotto for Christmas time.”
