Bobby’s Bar AFC hosted a memorial match for their former player and friend Stephen Slavin last Friday evening [September 25].

Stephen tragically passed away aged just 37 after a swimming accident when he was on holiday on the Isle of Lewis in August 2020.

He was a well-known character in the Three Towns community and well-respected player in the amateur game.

His parents Sandra and John Slavin told the Herald: “I would like to thank everyone who donated towards our son Stephen’s memorial game we are humbled by the generosity from the local community and beyond.

"We would also like to give special thanks to Tiffany and David who organised the event and worked tirelessly fundraising, you all done us proud in Stephen’s memory, thanks very much from the Slavin family.”

They raised £5,083.75 in total from donations.

His family wishes for the proceeds from the charity match to go to the RNLI to help them to continue their great work.

The game took place at Ardeer Stadium, Stevenston. Bobby’s Bar played a team made up of a mix of Bobby’s bar players and family, friends and former team mates of Stephen and the score was 2-3.

Entertainment was provided by Dance Mafia Showtime and DJ Sinki, with a top-prize raffle thanks to generous donations from Three Towns businesses.
