Saltcoats Active Lifestyle Team ( SALT) will be holding a sponsored walk on Sunday, October 24 to raise funds for the proposed new play equipment at Winton Circus playpark.

Following their recent successful Open Day, SALT’s plan is to walk from the Turf in Ardrossan, starting at 1pm, to Sandylands, and back.

SALT Chairperson, Donna McGregor, said: “Thank you so much to everyone who came down to chat and have a look at the plans for the swing park. It was lovely to hear what you all thought about the future of the park.

“We would like to say a massive thank you to John at Connected Communities for bringing along “The Mobile Youth Centre” aka “Spacebus” for us to display our plans and to Ricky for surprising us with some great tunes.

“Also a big Thankyou to Ardrossan Community Development Trust for lending us their fabulous deckchairs. Everyone commented how much they loved them.

“Thank you Christine Powell for taking time out your day to come and open up your container for us to borrow them and to your daughter for helping put them all back in. Love how we are working together to make the promenade a special place.

“We would also like to thank Elaine from the Melbourne for her kind gesture to our group of tea/coffees/hot chocolate. We were really touched that she thought of us.”

In addition to the sponsored walk, SALT will be down in Dockhead Street on Saturday, November 6, from 10am -4pm, with John’s aforementioned “Spacebus”, to further highlight our plans for the Winton Circus Playpark.”

Councillor Jean McClung, who has been supporting the SALT group, added: “It has been a delight to work with this enthusiastic band of volunteers who, like me, are keen to see this area of Saltcoats brought back to life. Community Groups like this are the lifeblood of the Three Towns.

“I really enjoyed the Open Day and the opportunity to discuss plans for the play park with members of the public.

“I am hopeful that the public will be equally supportive of the upcoming sponsored walk. Fancy dress and bright colours would be great, as would a good turnout of younger walkers.”
