A NORTH Ayrshire woman has launched a new jogging group for people to go along and feel safe whilst getting fit with other like minded folk.

Lauren Smith has set up a North Ayrshire branch of Jog Scotland, which was created to let people get fit and have fun at the same time.

The Jog Scotland NAAC group meet at St Matthews Academy in Saltcoats every Monday, with people of all abilities and ages welcomed to get involved.

With darker nights creeping up on us and people still slightly anxious about getting back to activities in groups, Lauren feels this is perfect opportunity to ease your way back into group activities, and start off your fitness journey.

She said: “I think people feel ready now , and I think a lot of people maybe did the couch to 5k challenge during lockdown and are now looking to take that next step, which this group is perfect for.

“You don’t have to be a regular marathon runner to get involved, we’ll have people of all fitness levels, sizes, ages and everything in between coming along to the group.”

Initially, the group will run every Monday at 6pm, with extra nights possible, depending on interest.

Having been strongly involved in running herself for the last few years, Lauren knows the benefits it can have on people, and she is hopeful that people are able to come along and find it as something they enjoy.

She continued: “It can be great for the mental and physical health, as everyone knows now.

“As we head into the winter months and darker nights, there is a good safety aspect to the group as well, given that we will be running in groups and in nice bright clothes.

“There have been a lot of people wanting something like this and looking for a jogging group that maybe isn’t quite as serious and competitive as other groups.

“So I think this is a perfect blend of people coming along and pushing themselves to do their best, and people coming along for the sort of social aspect.

“Anyone who is maybe a bit hesitant, I would say to them to come along and give it a go and then you can see for sure if it’s your thing or not.”

The 45-minute sessions take place every Monday, and more information can be found on the Jog Scotland NAAC Facebook page.
