A West Kilbride woman has shared her horror after a 'hit-and-run' white van driver caused her car to be smashed off the Redburn Roundabout near Kilwinning last night [October 29].

Ellie Wallace was hit by the driver who 'never slowed down' as she approached the roundabout causing her Ford KA to be rolled off the road.

Having just passed her driving test in June, Ellie said she was 'shocked and scared' by the incident which left her on the side of the road as the driver tried to drive off.

After coming to a stop, he tried to restart his van again and when it failed, he ran away from the scene without checking to see if Ellie was ok.

Speaking to the Herald, Ellie described the moment her car left the road: "I was coming home from Irvine at around 8:30, I live in west Kilbride, was on the Redburn roundabout and out of nowhere didnt see it coming at all.

"My car got flung off the road on to the round about it happened so fast and don’t remember too much.

"I was in such a state of shock I quickly got out of my car and felt my head and hands were covered in blood a couple cars stopped.

"That’s when I looked over to see the man try to start his van multiple times but wouldn’t start so he got out and ran away."

Thankfully, Ellie managed to escape the car and was described as being 'battered and bruised with a few cuts but she will be fine," however it is understood that the van was not insured.

She continued: "I phoned 999 off a witness’ phone then phoned my mum, emergency services came quickly where I was treated in the ambulance for the cuts on my face head and arm.

"However, due to the adrenaline didn’t feel my whip lash, sore lower back, chest pain and was also very dizzy blurred vision with bruises to my chest and legs."

Sharing photos of the car in the light of day, her father Graeme Wallace said his daughter had reported the car to be 'all over the road' as it approached the roundabout.
