A TOP Three Towns Indian restaurant has been praised for its efforts in making itself more energy efficient.

Motherland Spice were referred to Zero Waste Scotland by the council’s business team.

After carrying out an energy audit of their businesses practices, the team at Motherland Spice implemented a raft of changes during refurbishment work.

"Some of the work included a full new air ventilation system, energy saving refrigeration and LED lighting.

The audit and the support from the business team helped them obtain funding and advice to reduce costs and to give them the confidence to make the green changes.

The stunning refurb is a big benefit to the business and has led to a big saving in energy costs – while reducing their carbon emission by 15.2 tonnes.

Madhav Bhandari of Motherland Spice said: “We have installed new freezer and ventilation systems and the changes we have made have helped reduce the energy costs.

“The council has supported us throughout the changes we have made and we are really happy with how things now look.”

Councillor Joe Cullinane, said: “Motherland Spice is a fine example of the Council working with local businesses to help them contribute and make significant changes to their carbon footprint.

“We will continue to help and support as many businesses as possible.”
