Three Towns author Alex McLatchie has just published the eagerly anticipated sequel to his first book “Mining and Quarrying in Stevenston Parish”.
It is entitled “Black Friday” and is an investigation into the Auchenharvie Pit Disaster of August 2, 1895.
This incident was one of the most tragic and distressing episodes in Stevenston’s long industrial history.
All aspects of the Disaster are considered, from the endeavour, perseverance and courage exhibited by the rescuers, to the solidarity, resilience and generosity exercised by the local community.
The book, priced £10, is available from local libraries and a number of local outlets including Stevenston Post Office and The News Stand in Saltcoats.
All profits will go to the Ayrshire Hospice.
