A KILWINNING teenager has been remanded in custody in connection with an incident in which a woman was injured in the town on New Year's Day.

Police were called to a report of an incident at Ladyford Avenue in the town at 1.45am on Saturday, January 1.

Officers said a woman had been left with minor injuries following the incident and that police enquiries were continuing.

A 17-year-old male, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was arrested in connection with the incident.

The teen appeared in private at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, January 3, charged with assault and assault to injury.

He was also charged with carrying an offensive weapon in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, and with two counts of failing to comply with bail conditions.

The accused entered no plea during the hearing and was committed for further examination.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in court for a full committal hearing at a later date.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received report of a disturbance on Ladyford Avenue in Kilwinning around 1.45am on Saturday, 1 January, 2022.

"One woman sustained minor injuries.

"A 17-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He was due to appear appear in Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, January 3.”
