PEOPLE planning to travel by train between Ayrshire and Glasgow face several weekends of rail misery - starting tomorrow.

ScotRail says that due to engineering work, buses will replace all train services between Kilwinning and Paisley Gilmour Street for the next three weekends - and for a further four Sundays after that.

The closure of the railway will affect people planning to travel on the Ayr-Glasgow, Ardrossan-Glasgow and Largs-Glasgow routes.

Trains will run as normal south of Kilwinning, and will also run as normal between Paisley Gilmour Street and Glasgow, but a rail replacement bus service will operate between Kilwinning and Paisley, calling at all scheduled stations in between.

A direct bus will also operate between Glasgow Central and Ardrossan Harbour to connect with Arran ferry sailings.

Weekday train services will not be affected.

The disruption will affect travellers on the following dates:

Saturday, January 8 and Sunday, January 9

Saturday, January 15 and Sunday, January 16

Saturday, January 22 and Sunday, January 23

Sundays January 30, February 6, February 13 and February 20
