Many across North Ayrshire may be eligible for help towards their gas and electricity bills as we move past Christmas and into more cold winter months.

The Fuel Bank Foundation is a charity which can provide people with a pre-payment metre with a £49 grant, up to three times per year if they are struggling to make ends meet.

The grant is eligible for people who have been referred by local councils and food banks, advice agencies and charities, with Cunningham Housing Association and the Scottish Government both partners of the charity.

The Fuel Bank Foundation has already provided help to almost half a million people in the UK and following a £500,000 funding boost, believe they will be able to help a further 8,000 in fuel crisis.

Matthew Cole of the charity said: “We’re heading into a tough winter where more people than ever before are going to be forced to decide between turning on the heating or putting food on the table for their families.”
