A man and woman have been arrested after cops raided a home in Ardrossan and reportedly discovered a large haul of drugs and cash.

Ayrshire police say officers seized tens of thousands of pounds worth of illegal drugs in the raid this week.

The raid, which occurred on Wednesday, January 12, was part of 'Operation Designate', the Ayrshire policing division's programme targeting serious and organised crime and the supply of controlled drugs.

Officers from Police Scotland's Ayrshire proactive crime team arrived at the property in Nursery Place, Ardrossan with a drugs search warrant granted by a sheriff.

Police say that once inside they discovered what they believe to be a large amount of cocaine and cannabis, with an estimated street value of £40,000.

A significant quantity of money was also reportedly found at the property.

The 37-year-old man and 39-year-old woman have been charged with being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs and have been released to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date.

DI Ross Black of Ayrshire CID said: "Local people have consistently told us that drug dealing and misuse is a major concern to them - and support from members of the public is vital to our work.

"I would like to thank our community for their continued support in tackling these issues and encourage anyone with information regarding drug dealing or suspicious activity to please contact us."
