North Ayrshire Council’s newest housing development has been officially opened in Saltcoats.

Fourteen modern and energy-efficient homes have been completed on the site of a former council depot at Springvale in the town.

The development at Springvale Gardens is part of a wider NAC commitment to build 1,625 new homes across North Ayrshire.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, cabinet member for green new deal and sustainability, said: “We’re proud of the work we are doing in not only expanding our housing stock but in delivering high-quality, modern, energy-efficient and affordable homes.

“Residents have already moved into their new homes at Springvale Gardens and we are delighted with the feedback we have received from them.

“We have one of the most ambitious house-building programmes in the country and it’s reassuring to know that our new homes are making a positive difference to people’s lives and to local communities right across North Ayrshire.”

Supported by a Scottish Government grant of £800,000, the almost £3m development at Springvale includes six general needs houses, six homes suitable for wheelchair users and two amenity bungalows.

The development was delivered in partnership with Hub South West with Ashleigh (Scotland) as the main contractor.
