The Saltcoats Heritage Centre is set to host a lighthouse exhibition, supporting the ‘year of stories 2022’ theme by VisitScotland.

The exhibition features a collection of historical artefacts and art works celebrating the work of the lighthouse service of UK and Ireland.

An original painting by Scottish Artist John Lowrie Morrison (Jolomo) of Buchan Ness lighthouse will feature at the exhibition. This is the first time the exhibition has been on tour on the west coast of Scotland.

The exhibition runs from Monday to Wednesday, commencing on April 4 and concluding on June 28, at Saltcoats Heritage Centre in partnership with North Ayrshire Heritage and Culture.

It will open at 9.30am on the days of operation.

This will be the first exhibition since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Creator of the exhibition, Peter Gellatly, said: “The touring exhibition was established in 2018 self funded by me as a hobby and has been on location at Leith Royal Yacht Britannia, New Lanark Heritage Centre, Summerlee Industrial Museum of Scottish Life and St Abbs Head Visitor Centre.

“We hope you will find some time during your very busy schedule to be able to visit on one of the days the exhibition is operating.”
