A NEW STUDY has revealed that North Ayrshire is amongst the top ten places for women to work – in terms of the pay they receive in comparison to men.
The research, carried out by income-tax.co.uk using Office for National Statistics (ONS) data, showed that, on average, women in the county earn 7.76 per cent more than their male counterparts.
While the average salary for a male in North Ayrshire is £30,762, females are expected to earn £33,148 in comparison.
This placed North Ayrshire in eighth position in the study’s list of the ‘best’ places in the UK for women to work – the only Scottish county to appear in this section.
The full data set was also used to produce a top ten ‘worst’ places for women to work and a list of the ten ‘fairest’ places for females in the workplace.
A spokesperson for income-tax.co.uk commented on the findings and said: “Our research suggests that some of the fairest employers are not necessarily the richest.
"Quite the opposite, in fact – districts with high-paying jobs in general tend to pay women much less.”
The study was carried out using the most up to date ONS figures with a total of 321 districts analysed.
