FAMILY AND friends of a much loved West Kilbride man have begun creating a tribute for him, on the tenth anniversary of his passing.

Alex Jack was a popular school teacher in his time working across Garnock and Irvine, while also volunteering at his local West Kilbride Boys Brigade group.

Now family and friends of the beloved man are setting up a fitting tribute for Alex to remember him 10 years on.

Well known for his love of fitness, the memorial has been created atop one of Alex’s favourite routes, up Cauldron Hill in West Kilbride.

A spokesperson took to Facebook page set up in his memory - Remembering Alex 10 Years On - to explain the tribute.

They said: “We are inviting all those who love and miss him to paint a stone in his memory and place it at the top of Cauldron Hill, West Kilbride.

“This was one of Alex’s favourite runs, but we’re not asking you to run it, walking will be fine. If you live too far away then climb a hill where you are.

“When you have hiked or cycled to the top of the hill and left your stone, please take a photo of you and your stone to add to this page.

“We are looking forward to seeing lots of photos of your stones till April 17, 2023.

“We have permission from the landowner to leave the stones at the top of the hill and we will make a wee cairn with them all towards the end of the year as they mount up.

“Please leave only a stone and no plastic tributes.”

The first stones were placed on the hill this weekend, with Alex’s family and closest friends ascending Cauldron Hill to pay their tributes.
