A SEX attacker who raped a woman after holding her captive for FOUR DAYS has been jailed for seven years.

Andrew Gaffney, 24, refused to let his terrified victim leave the flat in Ayr. He also inflicted her more than 50 injuries on her, a court has heard.

Prosecutors stated this included her being bit, kicked, struck with a knife, as well as being forced to sit in baths of freezing cold water.

Gaffney was today sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow.

He had previously been found guilty of the abduction, assault and rape of the woman between November 25 and 29, 2019.

Judge Douglas Brown told him: "The jury rejected your account that during the four-day period you had consensual sex with the victim.

"You abducted her by detaining her in the flat and prevented her escaping from you.

"You repeatedly assaulted her in numerous ways...leaving her with 54 separate injuries covering her head and body.

"It is entirely understandable that, when giving evidence, she questioned why you did these things to her."

It emerged Gaffney had previously been locked up for 27 months for a domestic assault in 2017.

He had also been on bail when this latest crime took place.

Gaffney will also be supervised for a further three years on his release.

Judge Brown further imposed a non-harassment order banning him from contacting the woman for 15 years.
